Boxer

Boxer is a new short film written and directed by Remsy Atassi. It tells the story of Ryan Kunar, 17, an Iraqi-American boxer and recent high-school graduate. He lives with his father, a grocer of modest means. One night at a graduation party, Ryan gets into a fistfight and sends his opponent to the emergency room. But news from the hospital is grim – the boy is in critical condition and may not survive the night. As they wait hear what happens, Ryan’s dad prepares to send him out of the country. But Ryan must decide between escaping to Iraq and facing the consequences of his life in America.

Empire’s Sky: A Chicago Documentary (2011)

Empire’s Sky is the next major creative project on the Atassi Productions slate. In this documentary, we will ask, “How does the economy – itself a vast, complex, and esoteric system – affect real people in a metropolitan area like Chicago?” Our purpose is to make sense of how a crisis in the national economy, such as the home mortgage bubble, has tangible effects on real people. Chicago is home to many people who have been affected by the recent economic downturn: homeowners, the homeless, small businesses, major corporations, employees, students, families, and consumers of every stripe. Can their diverse stories tell us something meaningful about the economy as a whole?

Tenement

Set in a dystopian, post-industrial future, TENEMENT tells the story of Peter, a scavenger who seeks out anything he can trade for food. Peter and his wife, Rose, share an abandoned tenement with another father and daughter – there, they all take refuge from endless rain and the dangers of a decrepit city. But as food becomes harder and harder to find, Peter and Rose decide to flee their home in search of sun, safety, and a better life.
